Hello Summer school families,

We are excited to announce that we are hosting a wet splash field day tomorrow. Please send a change of clothes, shoes and a towel with your child tomorrow. Please see the description of these fun activities planned for our students. A special thank you goes out to Mrs Sandakli for taking the lead on this wonderful event.

Dash Dash Dump

Instruct the children to form a circle and sit down. This game is similar to Duck, Duck, Goose, except that in this variation, players must stop at each Duck (child), dash a small amount of water on each Duck’s head using a wet sponge, and then SQUEEZE the sponge on the Goose (the chosen person). Tell the children to call out, “Dash, Dash, Dump!” After the current Goose finishes squeezing the sponge on the new Goose, the new Goose must chase the current Goose around the circle. Then, the current Goose should quickly sit down in the open spot. Use a bucket of water to dip the sponge into between rounds of play.

(IN THE END, PLACE THE SPONGES BACK INTO THE WADING POOL)

Sponge Toss

Put children in pairs. Cut a piece of string approximately 12 feet long, and place it on

the ground in the middle of the playing area. Have pairs face each other, standing on

opposite sides of the string. The players’ goal is to have one player in each pair to start the game by tossing a wet sponge over the string to the other player. After each successful toss, instruct pairs to take one step backward. Continue the game.

Pairs must sit down when their sponge falls on the ground. The pair that moves apart the

the farthest distance from the string without breaking dropping their sponge wins the game.

(IN THE END, PLACE THE SPONGES BACK INTO THE WADING POOL)

Water Race

Place the wading pool at one end of a large playfield, and fill it one-third full with water. Place five empty buckets at the other end of the playfield. Divide children into five teams, and have them line up behind the buckets. Give a sponge to the first player in each team and another sponge to the second player in each team. Explain that when the Instructor says, “Go!” children must run their sponges down the field to the wading pool, use them to soak up as much water as possible, run back to their buckets, and wring the water from their sponge into their respective team’s bucket. Once the first runners return to their buckets, the next participants in line may start running to soak their sponge with water. After the time limit, check to see who’s bucket had the most water.

(IN THE END, POUR THE WATER IN THE BUCKETS BACK INTO THE WADING POOL)

Slime Time

Place the wading pool in the center of a large playfield, and fill it with water and sponge pieces. Select two participants to be Slimes, and have them each take a sponge piece from the wading pool. Explain that the rest of the players are the Chemists who accidentally created a slime that turns anything it touches into slime. When the game begins, they may begin running from the Slimes. If a Slime tags a Chemist with the sponge, the Chemist becomes a Slime and must take a sponge from the wading pool and attempt to tag the remaining Chemists. End game when there is only one Chemist left. Play again if there is extra time.

(IN THE END, PLACE SPONGES BACK INTO THE WADING POOL)

Fish Freeze Tag

Give 2 students a soaked sponge. Tell teams that they will play a game of freeze tag, but instead of touching teammates to freeze them, they will sling water on them with a wet sponge. All players that are hit with water must freeze until someone from their own team unfreezes them by tapping them. Tell players that if they splash anyone above the chest, they will be disqualified. Play more than one round with different taggers.

(IN THE END, PLACE THE SPONGES BACK INTO THE WADING POOL)

Water Balloon Potato

Have participants form a circle. Tell participants to quickly pass a water balloon around the circle. When the Instructor blows the whistle, have the participant holding the water balloon burst the balloon over either that participant’s head or feet. Continue the game with a new water balloon.

(10 WATER BALLOONS PER CLASS – 10 ROUNDS MAX)
